Pickin’ in the Park – Traditional Mountain Music and Square Dancing in Canton NC
Music is deeply embedded in Haywood County’s heritage. I was introduced to traditional Appalachian music when I met the Trantham Family. This family band includes three generations of prominent old-time musicians. Although their son Adam is away serving this great country, Doug, Emily and Sarah will perform at the Waynesville Street Dance, August 6th.
An event that still celebrates traditional mountain music with bluegrass or old-time bands is ‘Pickin in the Park’ . The event is held every Friday night from June until Labor Day at 7:00 p.m. and is FREE to the public. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the music!
Other spots in the park will light up the night with additional musicians playing in their own jam sessions.
The location is the Canton Recreation Park on Penland Street, Canton, NC – (828) 646-3411
